Parking
The City of Lafayette operates parking meters throughout the City, both on-street and in parking lots. There are also private parking meters in parking lots which are not under the authority of the City. The following information pertains only to City-operated parking meters:
Meters operate Monday-Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. City of Lafayette parking meters are not enforced on the following official holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
Residential Parking Permits
For designated neighborhoods, the City of Lafayette offers an annual Residential Parking Permit for $51.00 per year.
The permit expires December 31st.

The parking regulations were updated in 2018 (effective December 13, 2018). The update process included developing a Parking Management Strategy. Get Involved in the Downtown Parking Management Study: Starting in 2024, the City of Lafayette is starting the process to identify parking management strategies for the downtown area. The overall goal of the City of Lafayette Downtown Parking Management Study is to identify parking management strategies that achieve an efficient balance between parking supply and demand, an expected increase in new housing, and increased multi-modal travel throughout Lafayette’s downtown area.
Happy Valley Road Parking Permits
Are you a BART parker who lives in Lafayette and has had trouble finding parking? Effective December 1, 2016 the 40 on-street parking spaces under Highway 24 on Happy Valley Road were made available exclusively for Lafayette Residents as part of a test program.
Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis and permit holders must still pay the parking meter. This permit program has been popular and successful. Find out more by contacting cityhall@lovelafayette.org or (925) 284-1968 if you have any questions.
