The Program and Process

Junior Recreation Leaders (JR’s) are volunteers who help out at Camp Awesome. They will essentially be a Coach in training. They will shadow coaches, assist when needed, and gain valuable experience throughout their time as a Junior Recreation Leader.

JR’s will assist Recreation Leaders in any way possible. They may help lead a game or craft, entertain the kids at Camp Awesome, assist with set-up and clean-up, and be a great role model for the campers.

Junior Recreation Leaders will gain valuable experience that can set them up for Recreation Leader positions or other positions working with children. Their help in the program is extremely valuable. JR’s will carry more responsibilities than a camper and be able to learn leadership and job skills.

Junior Recreation Leaders are expected to treat this position as a job. It is important for participants to be committed, punctual, and responsible in the program.

JR’s will be under direct supervision of the Camp Director and Recreation Leaders, as well as the Recreation Coordinator.

Ages 12-16 can apply by filling out the online application. Applicants will be notified after applications are evaluated. Selection is based on residency (Lafayette residents will be given priority), the application, and availability. The application should be fully completed. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Selected applicants will be invited to an interview. Applicants will be notified after the interview process. Accepted JR’s can then register for what days or weeks they can commit to.

Fees vary throughout the year for the program:
School Year - No Fee
Summer - Day Camp Junior Leader (9:00am-2:00pm) - $100 per week and Afternoon Camp Junior Leader (2:00pm-5:30pm) - $70 per week.
