Petar Jakovina Trail Map

The Petar Jakovina Trail is a “feeder” trail providing access from downtown Lafayette to the Lafayette Ridge and Briones Regional Park.

To access the trail from Deerhill Road, walk up Sierra Vista and turn left on Sessions Road.

Continue uphill for about ¼ mile to the trail sign on your left. Turn left and follow the dirt trail uphill, cross a bridge, and continue until you cross the upper end of Sessions Road.

Continue uphill to the fire road and turn right to connect to the Lafayette Ridge Trail and Briones Regional Parks trails.

The trail traverses a canyon under a canopy of oaks, bay laurels and buckeyes, crossing a bridge and providing creek views. There is a bench a short distance from the beginning of the trail that is under a shady oak; you may sit here and enjoy views of Lafayette and the Reservoir.

Trail maps of Lafayette Ridge and Briones Regional Park are available from EBRPD online and in printed format.

 Petar Jakovina

Petar Jakovina was born in San Francisco and was the youngest of four children born to Yugoslavian immigrants. After learning the restaurant business, he opened Petar’s restaurant in 1959 on Mount Diablo Boulevard. Calling it "a little bit of San Francisco in Lafayette," the restaurant included a Hammond organ, a grand piano, a 20-foot bar, and many Old English objects decorating the walls. In 1980, he purchased a restaurant on Lafayette Circle and moved Petar’s restaurant there.

Beyond the restaurant business, Mr. Jakovina adored antique cars and spent some 20 years restoring a 1937 Rolls Royce.

As a local property owner, he was helpful to the City in making land available for the trail, which is named after him. He was honored at the trail dedication in 1996.
