Sandbag Stations
During the rainy season, fill-them-yourself, 24/7 sandbag stations are set up for Lafayette residents and property owners at the following two (2) locations:
- Corner of Mt Diablo Boulevard at Village Center (across from the Veteran’s Memorial Building)
- Corner of Camino Diablo and Loveland (across from the corporation yard)
To insure sufficient sand and bags are available, please only take what you need.
We have been monitoring the stations twice daily during the week and refilling sand and empty bags as necessary. If the station needs supplies, notify Public Works at 925-934-3908 or by submitting an online Public Works Maintenance Request. (The station is re-stocked during normal business hours.) Sandbags can also be obtained from local home improvement or construction material stores for a nominal fee.
Tips for Filling Sandbags
It is recommended to bring your own shovel and wear gloves. Filling sandbags is easier with two people. Only fill the bag one-third (1/3) to one-half (1/2) full - This keeps the bag from getting too heavy and enables you to stack the bags with a good seal. Watch this video about how to fill and use storm sandbags.
Winter Weather Reminder
Residents and businesses can help minimize drainage issues, and even flooding, by raking up leaves and debris in yards and along their property and properly disposing of them in the greenwaste container. (Remember not to blow or rake leaves into the street, gutters, ditches, tributaries, or creeks – this can contribute to flooding!)
