Fees
The Planning & Building Department collects two types of fees - application processing fees and development impact fees. Application processing fees accompany discretionary applications, like Design Review and Hillside Development Permits. Development impact fees fund new public infrastructure, like parks and storm water facilities, as the built environment and population grown. Development impact fees are collected with an application for building permit, prior to the Planning Department issuing stamped plans. The City accepts credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover Card), cash, e-payments, and checks made payable to the "City of Lafayette". E-payments are available upon request and includes a 2.9% convenience fee.
To review both application processing fees and development impact fees, download the Planning & Development Fee Schedule. Clicking this link will open a PDF file. To calculate development fees for your project, download the Accounts Receivable Form. Depending on which browser you use, clicking this link will either download an Excel file or open the Excel file in a new tab. Download the file, choose the tab for your project type at the bottom of the worksheet, enter data about your project and the worksheet will estimate your fees. This document is intended to provide a means by which applicants can estimate their fees, but your project planner will provide the final development fee figure.
Please note that other agencies, such as the Contra Costa County Building Inspection Department, have separate fee schedules which do not overlap with the City's. Please contact the other agencies directly to determine what fees may apply to your project. For a list of other agencies, please click here.
