The Young Artist Virtual Gallery

The arts are a fundamental way for youth to express themselves. The Public Art Committee seeks to invest in the broader community by showcasing this important perspective, and recently established The Young Artist Virtual Gallery which will feature the work of local, up-and-coming young artists. Artists interested in displaying artwork must submit a complete Young Artist Virtual Gallery Exhibit Packet, including executed Art Gallery Release to the City. Call for Artists

The City of Lafayette Public Art Committee invites local middle school and high school students to submit proposals for exhibitions in the Young Artist Virtual Gallery. The online gallery was created to support up-and-coming artists. It provides an excellent opportunity for young artists to have a solo show and share their work with the community. Apply now!

Ava Tran: A Different Style of Living

My name is Ava Tran, and I am a junior currently attending the Athenian School in Danville, CA. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, but decided to put effort into improving my skills in fifth grade. I primarily use the app Procreate and an iPad to create my art digitally. The digital art process is somewhat similar to that of the traditional process. First, I start with a sketch. Then, on a layer underneath the sketch, I lay down flat colors. Finally, I create a third layer over the sketch and flat colors and fully color and render the piece. In this series, I wanted to convey the idea of normalcy and friendship amidst a pandemic. Each piece is supposed to evoke feelings of friendship or intimacy with the subjects of the paintings to show that even though we are amidst a pandemic, feelings of happiness and comfort are still able to exist.
