Housing Element
May 2024 Submittal
July 12, 2024 - After more than two years of effort by the City of Lafayette and the community, the California Department of Housing & Community Development has concluded that Lafayette’s 6th Cycle Housing Element will comply with State law after the City completes necessary re-zoning and re-adopts the element. HCD’s letter dated July 12, 2024 follows four rounds of review by the State. More information about the update process can be found at PlanLafayette.org.
December 2023 Submittal
The City submitted a revised 6th Cycle Housing Element to HCD on December 14, 2023. The City received its third comment letter from HCD on February 12, 2024 which found "[t]he revised draft element addresses many statutory requirements; however, revisions will be necessary to substantially comply with State Housing Element Law." Staff has submitted a request to meet with our new reviewer Joanna Chang and Senior Program Manager Paul McDougall to get clarity on HCD's comments and to confirm the concrete steps necessary for the City to take for HCD to determine that our Housing Element complies with State law. January 2023 Submittal
The City Council adopted its 6th Cycle Housing Element on January 24, 2023, which was submitted to the State Department of Housing and Community Development on January 31, 2023. HCD issued a letter to the City on March 29, 2023 concluding that the element requires additional revisions in order to comply with the requirements of state law.
